1968 Mustang Coupe - Highland Green Exterior - Ivy Gold Interior - Sprint "B" Package - 289ci 2v V8 - C4 Automatic Transmission
1968 Sprint
I purchased the Mustang in September of 2008 from it's second owner in Chilliwack BC. It had been purchased by him in Bellingham Washington in March of 2007 from it's first owner.
When purchased the car had 107,325 original miles. It is rust free with a completely new interior, new brakes, new exhaust system with the engine and transmission having been rebuilt
at 98,000 miles. During this winter (2008) I replaced all parts showing any wear as well as a couple of body imperfections, it has been re-painted the same color as new plus
added two charcoal stripes on the hood and trunk. It has a set of Sceptor P225/45R17 tires on AR 17" Cobra Rims. I have just recently (March 2010) installed a Willwood front disc brake conversion kit, Hedman ceramic coated shorty headers, Edlebrock
Performer intake manifold and Holley 570cfm 4 barrel carburator.
About a Mustang Sprint:
To help bolster sales of the Mustang, Ford offered two different Sprint Mustang packages in the spring/summer of 1968. There was a choice of Sprint Package "A" or "B".
Sprint Package "A" consisted of a six cylinder or eight cylinder engine, included the C-shaped side striping, wheel lip moldings, full wheel covers and a pop-open gas cap.
Sprint Package "B" consisted of an V-8 engine only, GT Hood, GT pop-open gas cap, argent painted Styled Steel wheels with E-70 "Wide Oval" whitewall tires and grille-mounted fog lamps for a $117 premium over a base Mustang V-8.
According to information gathered by J.R. Gillespie, other options, such as the Tutone (black striped) GT hood, the Interior Decor Group, and the hardtop vinyl roof could be combined with the Sprint Package.
From Kevin Marti, author of Mustangs By The Numbers, there were 25,012 Sprint Package "A" Mustangs and 15,106 Sprint Package "B" Mustangs built in 1968.
Note:: The Sprint package differed by cylinder count, with sixes getting a C-stripe and pop open gas cap (GT identification) and full wheel covers. On V-8 sprints, GT fog lights were added, styled steel wheels with wide oval tires replaced full wheel covers and pop open gas caps - no GT badges were added. Basically, the 68 Sprint mustangs were low-buck GT's, you got the GT looks without the cost of the GT's four barrel engine and heavy duty suspension.
